Course summary
This is a 4 year degree course. Please ensure that when you apply for this course you choose Point of entry 1 in your UCAS Hub. The Foundation Year (level 3) is designed to equip applicants who do not have the required qualifications to enter directly onto level 4, with a robust toolkit of the academic, digital and personal skills required for successful study in Higher Education and also with an understanding of, and insight into, the business discipline. Successful completion of the Foundation Year will allow progression onto level 4 of BA (Hons) Business Management or any degree in the Business School portfolio. This course is designed for students wishing to embark on a professional career in business and management. It will help you develop analysis and evaluation skills which can be applied to real-world situations. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of the various functional areas of business, including management, marketing, human resources, finance and operations management within a global context. You will also be equipped with the skills required to be successful in business, such as entrepreneurship, digital literacy, collaborative working and communication skills. You will be able to effectively apply a range of management and business theories and practices in an entrepreneurial and innovative manner. All students have the opportunity to take an optional placement year which provides valuable workplace experience and significantly improves your employability on graduation. In addition, during your studies you will have the opportunity to meet with business practitioners through guest lectures and other special events. The course offers you the option of specialising in your final year by opting for a bracketed award in one of the following areas: Economics, Enterprise, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing and Sport. This degree can also be used as the basis for postgraduate study in more specialist areas. For example, the Business School has a MA in Human Resource Management which builds on the Human Resource elements within the award. As a student on the BA (Hons) Business Management with Foundation Year course you will study a foundation year comprising level 3 modules, after which successful completion will allow you to progress onto the three year degree programme. Whilst the programme can be completed in 4 years, the current provision entitles you to claim up to 5 years' funding from Student Finance England. Successful completion of the foundation year would also allow you to transfer onto the first year of any other Business degree course but please note, that should you choose to transfer course, this would reduce the amount of funding that you can claim to 4 years under the current funding provisions (i.e. the duration of study only).
