Course summary

The Foundation Certificate was developed to enable students to achieve a recognised qualification by selecting those modules relevant to their own personal interests or future career aspirations. In order to complete this course, it is anticipated that the modules will be studied over a period of between 18 months and two years.

Academic and Vocational Skills; Animal Anatomy and Physiology; Animal Health and Nutrition (1.5 module); Introduction to Animal Behaviour; Ecology and Identification of Native Species (1.5 module) OR Animal Health Care Management (1.5 module) OR Management of Captive Animals (1.5 module)

Qualification requirements

Normally 5 GCSEs Including Maths and English (or equivalents) are required, however, applicants are advised to check with the University Centre if they do not possess the specific qualifications. The University Centre may consider applicants with work experience within a relevant industry in place of some qualifications. Applicants who believe they may be eligible for Accreditation of Prior Certificated and/or Experiential Learning (APCL/APEL) will be considered on an individual basis. If you have any queries in relation to entry qualifications, then please contact the University Centre directly.

Additional costs for items that are essential for the course include: black warehouse coat - £15, laboratory coat - £12, waterproofs and boots - £50. Additional costs for opportunities and items that are optional for the course include: field study trip to Shamwari Game Reserve (South Africa) - £3,500 We are unable to offer part time learning to non EU applicants.
