The BTEC Higher National qualification in Integrated Health and Social Care targets students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. This route provides students with sound academic knowledge and practical knowledge skills needed for a successful career in the health or social care settings. Learning and Teaching Approach This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students’ learning styles and preferences. For all modules, theory lectures are delivered that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, students have group seminars/practical sessions that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically. The teaching methods focus on facilitating a student-centred approach to enhance the independent learning that takes place outside of the classroom. Teaching will take place on the Bishop Burton campus with blended Learning used to take advantage of learning technologies to provide support and allow students to participate and engage in learning wherever they are located or working. What is the contact time? Approximately 17 hours a week to include lectures, seminars and tutorials. Students are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (25-30 hours a week). Part-time is also available with this being taught alongside the full-time programme. Students can expect to receive their timetables during induction week. Students must complete a minimum of 225 hours of work placement whilst on the programme, and it is the responsibility of students to source appropriate work based experiences with the support of the course tutor and existing industry links within the local area. Year 1: Students will gain a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the healthcare sector through completion of units in Law, Policy and Ethical Practice in Health and Social Care; Demonstrating Professional Principles and Values in Health and Social Care Practice; Supporting the Individual Journey through Integrated Health and Social Care; Fundamentals of Evidence-based Practice; Addressing Health Inequalities and Changing Perspectives in Public Health. * There is a strong emphasis on employability skills and the knowledge essential for students with entrepreneurial, employment or academic aspirations. The programme contains a mandatory 225 hours of work experience. * The programme content is specifically designed to be appropriate for entry into or progression within the health or social care sector and enables students to progress onto higher study at Higher National Diploma (HND) or BA/BSc degree pathways.
Assessments may include written assignments, seminars, poster presentations, role-plays, reports, portfolios, case studies and presentations. Opportunities for feedback on assessments are available prior to the final submission to support student development and achievement. Staff aim to return assessed work within a 15 working day timeframe (not including holidays) in order that students can most benefit from the feedback.
