Course summary

The Fashion and Textiles HND Level 5 is designed to prepare you for the constantly evolving fashion industry. You will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for sustainable fashion. The course covers fashion design, garment construction, pattern cutting, fabric manipulation, and sewing machine techniques, all with a focus on minimising environmental impact and promoting ethical practices. Throughout this course, you will explore various fashion and textile techniques, develop your creative practice through hands-on workshops, and gain insights from expert lecturers, engaging in real-world projects to build a comprehensive portfolio. The Fashion and Textiles HND Level 5 is a two year course, where during your first year you will study a Level 4 HNC. Upon successful completion of the first year, you will then progress on to the second year to study the Level 5 HND. You will cover a variety of modules including: Concept and Development Creative Project Live Projects Personal Professional Development Professional Project Throughout this course, you will develop competence and confidence by: Developing ideas and concepts through brainstorming, research, and critical thinking Learning a variety of fashion and textiles approaches paired with a historical and theoretical foundation to encourage debate and reimagine the future of fashion and textiles practice Learning how to contextualise your work and think practically about your audience while exploring collaborative, collective and socially engaged approaches Learning how to display clothing and garments effectively Developing business skills such as sales and promotion, growing your audience, curation contracts, costing jobs and presenting your outcomes Working with external agencies and clients to gain professional experience and networking opportunities
