Course summary

Reasons to study Stage and Events Management • Experience a variety of roles on a range of productions and events both in College and in London venues. • Develop relationships with, and an understanding of, other disciplines; including lighting, sound, set construction, costume and prop-making, marketing, outreach, venue and site management, administration and finance. • Sharpen your creativity and management skills whilst collaborating with students from other programmes to deliver diverse performances and events. • Extend your learning through research, secondments, work placements in the industry or a period of study abroad. • Share classes and projects with students from other programmes to learn about the cultural, performance, arts and events industries and how to use experimentation, enquiry and creative research in your work as you prepare to build a successful career. Career opportunities Adaptable and creative practitioners, graduates from the Stage Management Programme, from which this programme has been developed, have gone on to work in a wide range of fields: theatre, dance, opera, television, festivals and corporate events. Year 1 Modules (Level 4): SEM401 - Management in Theory and Practice 1, focuses on the administrative aspects of management in theatre, events and related fields. SEM402 - Industry Study and Professional Preparation 1, encourages students to engage with their chosen industries, and consider the career paths open to them. SEM403 = Practical Skills, enables students to engage with craft, practical skills and technology in class and within the context of a production or event. DMT411 - The Practitioner in Context, shared across the School, encourages students to explore the cultural contexts in which we work and the practices and environments we share between disciplines. Year 2 Modules (Level 5): SEM501 - Management in Theory and Practice 2, allows students to explore management theory and thinking through both research and practice, with a production or events role and an essay responding to a provocation. SEM502 - Industry Study and Professional Preparation 2, encourages students to explore management models in a range of industry environments resulting in a portfolio submission. SEM503 - Applied Technologies, enables students to investigate technologies and their application in a range of fields. DMT511 - The Sustainable Practitioner, shared across the School, asks students to examine the sustainability of both their practice and their careers. Year 3 Modules (Level 6): SEM601 - Management in Theory and Practice 3, offers students the opportunity to explore and reflect upon their own practice of leadership and management. SEM602 - Industry Study and Professional Preparation 3, enables students to explore business models in a range of industries resulting in a seminar presentation and supporting research portfolio. DMT611 - The Independent Research Project, shared across the School, enables students to conduct their own major individual research project that can be based on their own practice or rooted in more traditional academic methods. 1) Rose Bruford College Bursaries for UK Students: We will offer £600 financial support for each year of the course in the form of a bursary to all students who come from households below the median income level (£29,400). This information is provided to the student loan company who communicate it to our student services team so once confirmed you will be paid automatically in February (£300) and May (£300) if you are eligible. 2) International Student Bursaries for School of Design, Management & Technical Arts Programmes: Each year, Rose Bruford College awards one bursary to an international student as they commence their study on an undergraduate programme within its School of Design, Management and Technical Arts (DMTA). The bursaries, with a value of £2,000 each year for three years (total £6,000) are part of the College’s commitment to making high-quality professional training and education in theatre and the entertainment industries available to students from anywhere in the world.
