Course summary
The Pearson BTEC Level 5 Public Services (HND) is the equivalent to the first two years of a University Degree and provides a specialist programme of study that covers the skills required to be successful in uniformed and non-uniformed Public Services. This course will enhance your potential for employment through having a greater understanding of roles within various services such as the prison service, criminal justice system, emergency services and the military. The course will explore criminal behaviour, mental health and wellbeing, organisation structures, crime reduction strategies and effective coaching and mentoring strategies to provide essential understanding for a range of the diverse opportunities available in the Public Services sector. This is a work-related qualification for students taking their first steps into employment, or for those already in employment and seeking career development opportunities. The purpose of BTEC Higher Nationals in Public Services is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the public services sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualification aims to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects.
Assessment method
The assessment of Pearson's Higher National qualifications are criterion-referenced and you will provide evidence in the form of assignments which are assessed against the unit learning outcomes and assessment criteria. All units are individually graded as a pass, merit or distinction. A pass is awarded for the achievement of all outcomes against the specified assessment criteria. Merit and distinction grades are awarded for higher level achievement.
