The Foundation Degree in Policing is designed to ensure that you cover a broad range of modules, which will equip you for employment in the Police or related criminal agencies. It has also has been designed to meet the demand for degree qualified professionals who wish to join the police under the new recruitment criteria. You are provided with the underpinning knowledge and expertise to progress either into the employment market or to continue your studies on the BA (Hons) Top-up degree.

Course details


The Foundation Degree is a 2 year programme. In each year you will study 120 credits over two semesters. The course comprises of mainly 20 credit modules which cover areas such as: Level 4 Crime in England and Wales Psychology and Crime The Roles, Responsibilities and History of the Police Models of Policing Leadership and Teamwork Professional Development Level 5 Criminal Justice Work Related Learning Police Powers and Procedure Criminology and Crime Prevention Research Methods and Skills Youth Crime and Justice

Assessment method

Continuous assessment ensures that your progress is monitored throughout the modules with personal tutor support. A variety of assessment methods are used, including presentations, role-plays, professional discussions, portfolios and reports.

Additional entry requirements


We welcome applications from students who do not meet the standard entry requirements (for example mature candidates). We will consider each applicant on their own merit and suitability, based on individual qualities, experience and learning from within the chosen occupational sector. These applicants will be invited for interview, and asked to provide evidence of their experience.

English language requirements

A GCSE grade C in English, or equivalent is required. Speakers of other languages will need to possess an IELTS band score of 6.0 (with no-less than 5.5 in any one element) or a recognised English Level 2 qualification.
