Course summary
This flexible course, centred around an in-depth clinical supervision training module, will enable you to advance your expertise in Counselling and Psychotherapy. It is designed to help you further develop your therapeutic skills, applying your learning in complex professional contexts. The course enhances your critical understanding of the theoretical knowledge underpinning practice, while also refining your ability to appraise research evidence critically. Please note: Only fully qualified, professional counsellors or psychotherapists can apply for this course. If you are not qualified, you should apply for the MSc/PgDip Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies (Professional Training). Pathways
- One-Year Full-Time Pathway: You will complete the ‘Supervision in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Helping Relationships’ and ‘Dissertation’ modules, each worth 60 credits. Additionally, you will take one 30-credit module in trimester one and another in trimester two.
- Two-Year Part-Time Pathway: In year one, you will complete the ‘Supervision in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Helping Relationships’ module and one of the trimester two 30-credit modules. In year two, you will complete one trimester one 30-credit module and the ‘Dissertation’ module (60 credits).
- Three-Year Part-Time Pathway: In year one, you will complete the 60-credit ‘Supervision in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Helping Relationships’ module. In year two, you will select one trimester one module and one trimester two module. In your final year, you will complete the ‘Dissertation’ module. While this pathway is not eligible for a postgraduate loan, it is ideal if you have a busy schedule or if you already have relevant postgraduate credits and/or are an accredited counsellor or psychotherapist.

- Year one, trimester one: Supervision in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Helping Relationships, Bereavement and Loss (Online), Compassion Focused Therapy (Online), Evidencing Personal and Professional Development (Online), and Research Methods.
- Year one, trimester two: Expressive Therapies, Trauma Sensitive Mindfulness (Online), Counselling and Psychotherapy for Children and Young People, CBT for Children and Young People, Research Methods, Evidencing Personal and Professional Development (Online), and Supervision in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Helping Relationships (continued from trimester one).
- Year one, trimester three: Dissertation.
Assessment method
The course employs both formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments help you gauge your progress and prepare for summative evaluations. These include peer and tutor reviews, feedback on written work, reflective reviews, blogs, and discussion groups. Summative assessment methods include written essays, portfolios, presentations (including poster presentations), and a supervised research dissertation, all addressing issues of theory and practice.

International applicants
Due to the structure of this programme, it is not available to applicants who require a Tier 4 visa.
Entry requirements
- **Undergraduate degree**: Normally a 2:2 honours degree or equivalent. - **Professional qualifications**: You must be a qualified counsellor or psychotherapist with recognised professional membership (e.g., BACP/UKCP) and at least one year of post-qualification supervised practice. To apply, you must provide: 1. Evidence of a professional qualification in counselling or psychotherapy. 2. Evidence of membership of a counselling or psychotherapy professional body. 3.
