Our innovative fast-track programme provides you with a specialist foundation degree in just two years, as well as giving you a strong understanding of young people’s development and how to inspire them with learning. You’ll visit different educational environments, hear from industry-leading guest lecturers and have the chance to study towards an accredited Forest School certification, all while developing your academic understanding of mathematical concepts at degree level. Where could this take me? After your accelerated, two-year degree you’ll have plenty of options. If you want to become a qualified teacher, you’re perfectly poised to do a PGCE. Or you could go straight into working in education as an unqualified teacher. Outside of teaching, previous graduates have worked in education roles in the arts, heritage and local government, as well as tutors and education consultants. Or you could take up postgraduate study in a range of areas thanks to this quality first degree.

Modules

Core modules include: Introduction to Education Education Theory Vector Calculus Differential Equations Optional modules include: Calculus Linear Algebra Probability and Statistics Introduction to University Mathematics

Assessment method

The first year of this accelerated degree has a strong focus on thinking critically about what education is, how it differs in different places at different times, the values that underpin and inform it, and developing the skills to reflect on it in thoughtful, insightful and well-informed ways. It provides opportunity to gain practical experience as well as exploring Mathematics as your subject of interest, allowing you to develop your knowledge alongside your understanding of how to teach it. The second year of the programme continue the focus on reflective practice, providing opportunity to visit a range of settings and to meet expert practitioners. It focusses on key contemporary issues and provides opportunity to develop the skills necessary to research an aspect of education about which you care passionately.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
