This course is accredited by the University of Warwick OVERVIEW Aviation is a huge international industry. Airlines transported more than 4.5 billion passengers worldwide in 2019, while global cities, ‘mega-regions’ and emerging destinations are experiencing phenomenal growth in aviation development. New digital technologies are also being harnessed to create ‘smarter’ operations, conscious of the global environmental challenges society faces. Developed with extensive input from industry experts, our Aviation and Airport Management degree will help your career ‘take off’ in this dynamic sector. Using our state-of-the-art facilities including our Aviation and Tourism Suite, you will gain a deep understanding of the aviation environment and practices through simulated and real-life industry projects, visiting airports, networking with experts and learning first-hand how the industry functions. One of the benefits of our course is the option of a four-year degree with a 48-week paid work placement, giving you a distinctive advantage in a competitive job market. A number of our students have also worked part-time at Birmingham Airport, and with the airport’s £500 million expansion plan to become the ‘Midlands Gateway to the World’, there are fantastic opportunities on your doorstep both during and after your studies. FACILITIES Students on our aviation courses have access to outstanding simulation facilities in our Aviation and Tourism Suite, featuring a state-of-the-art mock plane cabin as well as check-in areas, a working security gate and Galileo GDS system for training students. You will also have the chance to develop new skills in our Digital Creative Studio, featuring state-of-the-art video and audio production facilities including a video production studio with 4K cameras and green screen technology, audio podcasting, vision mixing and editing facilities, as well as high-spec computers with Adobe Creative Cloud software and graphics tablets. ACCREDITATIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS University College Birmingham is a recognised Institute of Travel and Tourism Centre of Excellence. This course has been developed with extensive input from industry experts, including Swissport. PLACEMENTS Our course features a 48-week paid placement, during which you will not incur any tuition fees. (There is also the option to study the course without a placement.) Opportunities are also available for part-time work during the summer months. Please note: All formal placements depend on availability and are subject to an application/interview process. Transferring from another university At University College Birmingham, we consider applications from students who have studied, or are currently studying, a Higher Education course and now wish to transfer universities. Where similar study is apparent, it may be possible for us to award Recognition of Previous Learning (RPL) and, therefore, advanced entry onto a course at UCB will be permitted. Please note; due to the nature of this process, all applications are considered on an individual basis.

Additional fee information

UK: If you are a UK student enrolling on a Foundation Degree or a BA/BSc at University College Birmingham in 2021/22, your fee for this academic year will be £9,250. A half year tuition fee is £4625. This is a yearly fee, and will increase with inflation in subsequent years (in line with the government’s permitted rise). If you are an English student studying your first higher education qualification, you can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Student Loans Company. You will not start repaying this loan until you leave the course and are earning over £25,000 a year. If you live in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you should apply to Student Finance Wales, Student Finance Northern Ireland, or SAAS.
