This course gives you the opportunity to study mathematics and finance together, two disciplines which are closely intertwined and highly complementary. You will develop essential mathematical, computational, and statistical skills, as well as the competence and background knowledge needed to effectively apply them in the financial world. To facilitate this you will enjoy expert-level teaching from both the Business School and the School of Mathematical Sciences; our academics are internationally-renowned leaders in their fields. This course is fully accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
Two-thirds of your first year is devoted to mathematics, including core mathematics, which provides the foundations for your later mathematical studies, together with more specialist material in probability and statistics. The remainder of your first year comprises modules devoted to financial topics, such as financial accounting and business finance. Your second year modules will extend your expertise in probability and statistics, enhance your numerical skills, and develop general skills that are important for careers in mathematics and finance. In year three, two-thirds of the year is spent studying more advanced mathematical topics relevant to finance, including modules such as stochastic models and game theory. You will also choose from a range of financial modules such as financial economics and financial markets.
