Course summary

Gain primary and specialist sport and exercise medicine skills. This specialist academic and clinical online master's course is exclusively for doctors. This specialist master's course will help you to develop the in-depth knowledge and clinical skills you need to work in the field of sport and exercise medicine. You may be managing recreational and elite athletes already or be looking to deepen your knowledge of musculoskeletal injuries, so that you can better assess, treat and advise your patients in your practice. We are one of just a few universities offering this type of course part-time through distance learning. You will have the convenience of being able to complete your studies while remaining in clinical practice. By taking part, you will benefit from:

Graduate prospects By the end of the course, you will be qualified to work with athletes and sports teams at the highest level. You will also be better equipped to assess, treat and advise patients in relation to musculoskeletal injuries, and to advise patients about the health benefits of exercise more generally.

Modules

This course lasts 2 to 4 years. It starts in September 2023 and ends in 2025. Your course end date may vary depending on how many units you complete in each year. Occasionally we make changes to our programmes in response to, for example, feedback from students, developments in research and the field of studies, and the requirements of accrediting bodies. You will be advised of any significant changes to the advertised programme, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions. Units Residential events As part of this course, there are some optional and compulsory residential events. View budgeting information for residential events. Induction An online induction will take place on 21 and 22 September 2023. Year 1 Sports Science Residential Week Attendance at the January 2024 (exact date to be confirmed) residential week is optional. Year 2 Clinical Residential Week Attendance at the January 2025 (exact date to be confirmed) residential week is compulsory. Year 2 Exam revision day Attendance at the June 2025 (exact date to be confirmed) Exam Revision Day is optional. Year 2 Clinical examination (OSCE) day Attendance at the September 2025 (exact date to be confirmed) OSCE exam is compulsory. Entry requirements

British qualifications To apply for this course, you should have a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. You should be a qualified medical doctor with full unrestricted registration with the General Medical Council. You should also have a minimum of one year’s work experience as a qualified and registered doctor before enrolment. English language requirements IELTS: 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in all components The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): 62 with no less than 59 in any element TOEFL IBT: 90 overall with a minimum 21 in all 4 components You will need to get your English language qualification within 24 months prior to starting your course. If you need to improve your English language skills before starting your studies, you may be able to take a pre-sessional course to reach the required level.
