Course summary
On the course we will support you to develop as a well-informed, sensitive, confident and knowledgeable practitioner. You will then be in a good position to join the national workforce of skilled and capable professionals supporting children and young adults with special educational needs, and their families. You will gain a good theoretical and research-informed grounding in the subject, and also have the opportunity to develop personally and professionally. Throughout the course we place a strong focus on real world learning. You will be offered visits at various points as part of your studies, and undertake a placement in your final year. This will give you important insights into professional practice. Careers open to you after graduation include teaching (in most cases this will require a postgraduate teaching qualification) and teaching assistance in schools, inclusion support, child and family advocacy, mentoring and adult education. You will be supported by our course team who have a national reputation for their work in the area of special educational needs and disability. The team will share their expert knowledge and practical experience to ensure that your own experience on the course is positive and interesting and stands you in good stead for the next stage of your life and work.
