Course summary
Our cutting-edge BA (Hons) Filmmaking course will develop your skills across key filmmaking debates and practice conventions. You will be taught by industry-established practitioners and noted film scholars, who will provide their knowledge of international film criticism and filmmaking perspectives. This course will introduce you to the principles of filmmaking, alongside training in film industry perspectives and practice. You will learn to become a visual storyteller, within drama or documentary, and will work collaboratively, within multidisciplinary teams to craft engaging narrative-focused films. You will also learn key skills and acquire practice-based knowledge within the filmmaking production processes, such as cinematography and post-production techniques. You can also opt into a range of options allowing you to consider the skills of film entrepreneurship, the popularity of cult cinema traditions, and the appeal of Bollywood filmmaking. You will be taught at the City Centre Campus, home to an impressive range of media resources, studios and edit suites, and your formal studies will be enriched by the possibility to work on a range of external events, such as the Cine-Excess International Film Festival. Foundation Year The foundation year is designed to give you the opportunity to develop your academic and interpersonal skills while developing your subject knowledge further to support you to success on your academic path. By studying a foundation year, your first year will be spent learning a wide range of broad subject areas which then open up opportunities for you to specialise further in your next year – which would be the first year of a full degree programme.
