Course summary

Develop highly sought-after skills, in a growing industry on our new BSc Cyber Security course. We also offer the opportunity of a one-year paid work placement. As technology develops, so must those who protect digital spaces and information. Cyber attacks have become a common feature in our news cycle and pose a threat to societies and economies across the globe. Our BSc Cyber Security is designed to mould you into a forward-thinking, adaptable and proficient cyber security professional who can tackle one of the biggest technological issues the world faces today. The programme is the best of both worlds: you will gain a strong understanding of computing and web development, while specialising in a sought-after skill that will be an imperative for organisations spanning across many different industries. This dynamic programme, taught by leading experts in computing, cyber security and digital forensics, will develop and elaborate on three key pathways in the cyber security landscape: secure operations, digital forensics and non-technical cyber careers in policy and regulation. In doing so, it will provide you with a deep understanding of your own strengths and preferences, meaning that you are well prepared to identify your interests and pursue them after you graduate. In your second and third years, you will learn about cyber law and regulation, secure cloud computing, risk and incident management, and further develop your skills in digital forensics. The course is constantly evolving in line with cyber security tools and techniques, meaning that you will be fully prepared for an ever-changing industry after your graduate. You will also be provided with the opportunity of becoming a Certified Ethical Hacker through the EC-Council. Our BSc Cyber Security course follows an active blended learning style, with some lectures replaced by workshops and seminars. This means that you’ll be in a learning environment focused on collaborative learning in the lab spaces of our state-of-the-art media centre, the Sir David Bell Building, and be immersed in an environment that you’ll experience in the IT industry. Employability in computing programmes is embedded throughout the curriculum, with a focus on project-based assessment that attempts to mimic real-life scenarios. This is especially demonstrated in the collaborative nature of the teaching, the team working elements and the Final Year project. Taught on our south-west London campus, on this degree you will have access to many opportunities for work experience through our Careers Team, and access to face-to-face and 24/7 online careers support, whether you choose to live on campus or commute to us. This course offers all students the option of a one-year paid work placement, to boost your employability even further. A placement year is the perfect opportunity to gain valuable work experience, to build on the career skills we will teach you on this degree. The connections you make on the placement will improve your career prospects further, and equip you with the skills you need to secure graduate-level employment.
