What you'll learn We will teach you how retail and investment banks function within financial markets. You'll also understand the role of other financial intermediaries. You'll study and apply theoretical frameworks in economics and finance. The course will also encourage you to engage with contemporary debates on issues related to financial markets and institutions. We will provide you with the opportunity to understand and critically analyse:
  • the role of commercial and investment banks within international financial markets
  • the functioning of financial markets
  • a wide range of investment management topics

You'll use these for your empirical projects in applied econometrics as well as your final dissertation. Your development You'll develop relevant skills and a practical understanding of:

Entry requirements

A 2:1 honours degree, or an international equivalent. You also need to show a firm grasp of: •basic calculus •probability theory •statistical inference If this is not evident from your transcripts, please use your personal statement to give details of your mathematical knowledge. We will also consider your application on an individual basis if you have a 2:2 honours degree and substantial, relevant, professional experience. International Students: To study this course you need to meet our Band 6 English Language requirements. Direct Entry: IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in all sub-skills) If you have lower English Language scores, you may be accepted onto a pre-sessional English course. Our typical English Language requirements are listed as IELTS scores but we also accept a wide range of English Language tests.
