Course summary
Our Master's by Research in Science combines taught courses with a major research element. It’s ideal for graduates wishing to apply advanced skills to industry-style projects. This course allows you to follow a structured route into scientific research. For the taught element, you select from a wide range of modules across the natural and life sciences appropriate to your individual research topic, with the guidance of your supervisor. The course is suited to students interested in a postgraduate research qualification and strengthening their insight into the mechanics of research in science. Your research can cover a broad range of areas, including biology, chemistry, forensic science, and human nutrition. Many research projects we support span across these disciplines. You'll benefit from one-to-one project supervision with specialist academics and strong links with industry. We've also invested heavily in extensive research facilities, including electron microscopes, mass spectrometers, and specialist bench-top analytical equipment, which are available to you at our Medway Campus in Kent. Assessment method
On this course, students are assessed by take-home exams, coursework and practice assessments on campus where required. Each course has formal assessments which count towards your grade. Some courses may also include 'practice' assessments, which help you monitor progress and do not count towards your final grade.
Entry requirements
An undergraduate (honours) degree at 2:1, or above, in a relevant Science subject. Applicants without a degree that have relevant professional experience and supervisory responsibility may be considered. Applicants from other backgrounds may be considered.
