Course summary

We offer PhD and MPhil supervision in History of Art and Film in areas compatible with the research interests of our academic staff including: Art and Architectural History and Theory

  • Italian Art, from the Early Renaissance through to the Baroque
  • Art Theory
History of Film, Television and Comics
  • British and American cinema history, from production to reception
  • Popular culture, video games, comics and the serial across media
  • Contemporary American film and television, the family on-screen, gender, and costume/fashion
  • East Asian cinema


Entry requirements

You must hold a UK undergraduate (Bachelor's) degree with at least First-Class or Upper Second-Class honours or an equivalent qualification from a recognised overseas institution. We would also normally expect applicants to hold a Master's degree but this may not always be necessary.
