Course summary
The Tourism, Hospitality and Event sectors are at the heart of Northern Ireland economic growth and are dispersing wealth right across Northern Ireland. The Tourism Strategy: 10 Year Plan (Dept of Economy, 2023) establishes a vision and mission for the growth in Northern Ireland over the next decade and the events industry is embedded deeply in this strategy. Consumer events such as sporting events and concerts draw crowds and stimulate the local economy, and business events play an important role in showcasing NI as a place to visit, study, live, work, do business and invest in. It is estimated the expansion of the business events sector will generate up to 2,000 new jobs across Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland Business Events - Integrated Strategy 2030). Recently, the Department of Digital Culture Media and Sport (2024), estimated that the events industry generates £84bn every year with conferences and business events generating over £18bn in direct spend annually. With over 700,00 people employed within the events industry, there is a need for new graduates in this sector and opportunities are available across the industry in areas such as exhibitions and conferences, business events, music and festivals, and bespoke sporting events. This two-year Foundation Degree in Event Management, validated by Ulster University aims to provide graduates with the principles and theories alongside the practical application of skills required to plan, organise and manage live events. Our students will have the skills, knowledge and experience the industry needs and this two-year programme, opens the door to an exciting range of career pathways. Students are also given the option to travel and to experience the industry at first hand through Work Based Learning, site visits to the industry or through their engagement with a wide range of industry professionals. Students are also given the opportunity to further experience diversity of the industry at first hand through the module Work Based Learning or through volunteering opportunities with local charities. Structure Full Time Structure: The course is delivered over 2 years. The programme consists of 11 modules. Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills Literacy may be regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE English Language. The College may accept an equivalent level of qualification. Some courses may require higher than the minimum Grade C/4. Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) We recognise that prior learning or experience may give some students credit towards a qualification to gain entry onto a programme or credit towards a programme of study. You must ensure that you meet the following non-academic entry requirements, for courses running during academic year September 2026 – August 2027: You must be 16 years old by 1 July 2026 (born before 2nd July 2010). You must provide proof of your right to study in the UK. For courses with work placement, you must also provide proof of your right to work in the UK. You must provide photographic evidence of your identity. Access NI/ SOSCARE - Admission to certain courses will be subject to satisfactory Access NI/criminal records and SOSCARE checks. Criminal Convictions Disclosure - The College has a student Criminal Convictions Disclosure Policy therefore you must disclose criminal convictions when applying or enrolling onto a course. English language requirements
There are minimum English Language requirements for full-time Higher Education programmes. Applicants must hold a GCSE pass at Grade C/4 or above in English Language. Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills Literacy may be regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE English Language. The College may accept an equivalent level of qualification. Some courses may require higher than the minimum Grade C/4. You are advised to check the individual course entry requirements. Where a GCSE grade in English is specified as the only qualification accepted, other English competency qualifications may not apply. If you have not achieved GCSE English Language Grade C/4 or an equivalent level, you will be asked to provide evidence of English Language competency. Other qualifications may be accepted as evidence of level of competency on a case-by-case basis.
