Course summary

Gain a range of skills in applied mathematics, programming, statistics and data analysis leading to a career in data science or a related field. In recent years, there has been an increase in the amount and complexity of data in all areas of life including medicine, sports, and finance. This course is for you if you have an analytical mind, enjoy visualising and interpreting data, and thrive on a challenge. You'll learn how to use your mathematical skills to formulate problems and discover patterns in data, and apply these techniques to analyse data from a variety of disciplines. Computing is an essential tool in data science and you will develop strong programming skills and the ability to implement mathematical algorithms on large data sets. This includes hands-on experience in analysing data from real-life applications. You’ll learn how data science is used in a wide range of industries and gain an understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence at the cutting-edge of data science. All of our courses are flexible and allow for a wide choice of units after year one. You may be able to switch courses during the first year. You’ll gain a broad training in mathematics and statistics, and develop specialist skills for a technical career in data science or a related field. This broad knowledge and set of skills will prepare you not only for technical roles, but non-specialist careers such as computing, financial services and management.
