Course summary

This course aims to provide students with a deep knowledge of a chosen topic in mathematics or statistics and develop their research skills in project planning, reviewing literature, group discussions, research presentations and writing publications. Students can choose to work with experts from a range of areas including quantum cryptography, graph theory, statistical analysis, bioinformatics and mathematical modelling.

Modules

Core modules: Research Methods; Research Project. Optional modules: Computational Statistics and Data Analysis; Applied Statistics; Statistical Modelling; Mathematical Recipes; Topics in Mathematical Biology; Linear Systems; Topics in Applied Mathematics; Numerical Analysis and Dynamical Systems; Topics in Pure Mathematics; Coding Theory and Cryptography.

Assessment method

Research project dissertation, written assignments, oral presentation, poster presentation, formal examination, progress portfolio.


Entry requirements

A UK Honours degree (minimum 2.1) or higher qualification in a related subject. Appropriate experience or other relevant qualifications will also be considered. Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.5.
