Studying Animation with us will give you a solid and sound understanding of the concepts of animation. We will actively encourage you to develop your own style and ideas in this reflective and creative industry. Whether you have a keen interest in Animation, or you’re completely new to this fascinating subject, you will develop unique skills, giving you an edge in the industry, allowing you to do what you love in a number of different job roles. For example, you could work on advertising campaigns for large global brands, animate TV programmes and films, or create detailed architectural plans for property developers. You will explore all aspects of animation, learning about stop frame, CGI, 2D and 3D animation. Our highly experience lecturers and guest lecturers will give you insights into the industry, guiding you through the whole production process; and be able to introduce you to leading animators in the industry.

Course details

Modules

The first year will introduce you to the basics of animation. You’ll learn transferable skills that you will be able use in any sector of the industry. We will introduce you to the principles of animation, and then you will be able to work on scriptwriting and narrative planning. In the second term, you’ll grasp the basics of stop frame animation and work in CGI, and during the third term you’ll put your knowledge into practice during your first commercial animated project. All the modules in the first year will help you to understand the stages of animation and set up perfectly for the second year. In the second year, we will introduce you to further animation techniques and software such as Animate and Cinema 4D so you can practice your 2D and 3D animation skills. You will begin to blend directed and self-directed study with professional work based focus as you undertake professional practice and personal projects. Guest lecturers will give you a real insight into the industry, and you will be able to establish contacts in the industry through work placements. In your final year you will be able to really hone in on your personal style in animation. You’ll be able to undertake a reflective module in film-making, just as you would in the industry. You’ll undertake a dissertation related to your personal interests and have the chance to work on your final major project to help raise your professional profile and confidence, preparing you for your career.
