Course summary
The HNC/HND in Business Management provides a wide-ranging study of the business sector and is designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in business. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the study of the business sector it will prepare you for further study or training. The Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Business Management offers a broad introduction to the subject area. You will gain a wide range of sector knowledge tied to practical skills gained in research, self-study, directed study and workplace scenarios. At Level 4, students develop a broad knowledge and awareness of key aspects of the business sector through six core units, which include one unit assessed by a Pearson-set assignment. Level 4 units may include: • Business and the Business Environment • Marketing Essentials • Human Resource Management • Management and Operations • Management Accounting • Managing a Successful Business Project (Pearson-set unit). Progressing on to the Level 5 HND in year two will ensure you develop a sound understanding of the principles in the study of Management, and you will learn how to apply those principles more widely. You will evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to solving problems. On successful completion you should be able to perform effectively in your chosen field and will have the qualities necessary for employment in situations requiring the exercise of personal responsibility and decision making. At Level 5, the core units may include: • Research Project • Organisational Behaviour • Operations and Project Management • Understanding and Leading Change • Global Business Environment Teaching and Assessment The course runs over two days per week; you will be required to attend UCS one day per week and you must also be able to commit to one full day of online study per week. Assessment methods are assignment-based, both in class and online. We are able to offer the delivery of HND Business Management through HN Online. HN Online allows for bespoke online delivery of many units to support your learning and enable a flexible approach to teaching, learning and assessment. Progression Opportunities On successful completion of the Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Business Management you may be able to develop your career in the business sector through entering employment or advancement in existing employment and/or progressing onto a top-up degree course.
