Course summary

MEng Mechanical Engineering is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). Develop your understanding of stress analysis, dynamics, heat transfer, mechatronics, materials and manufacture, and maths. Learn to use industry standard software and gain plenty of hands-on experience testing theories in our well-equipped laboratories. Choose your modules in a way that allows you to specialise, perhaps with your chosen career in mind. The extra year for MEng students includes group and individual projects which showcase all of your technical engineering knowledge. Gain an inside track on the profession through factory visits and professional briefings with industry leading organisations across the UK. This course is developed alongside our partner employers to make sure you're industry ready when you graduate. They also provide you with placement opportunities, as well as advice on CV-writing, interview techniques and industry issues. Mechanical engineers are sought after for traditional engineering jobs and the product development process. They are also highly regarded in the world of financial business. You’ll also be in demand to help maximise usage of high capital plants and operations such as power stations, oil refineries and hospitals.

Qualification requirements

We'll consider evidence of your relevant personal, professional or educational experience where it demonstrates an ability and potential to succeed on the course. Please include details of any relevant experience in your application. Advanced Entry If you have HNC, HND or FdSc qualifications in closely related subjects, you may be credited with individual modules, which will shorten the course for you. If you are studying the part-time route of this course, typical entry points for applicants with an HNC/HND qualification in Engineering or similar are: • England Level 4: Higher National Certificate (HNC) RQF Level 4 or Scottish Higher National Certificate (HNC) - SCQF Level 7 - entry point will be year two on the six year course, so there will be five years of study remaining. • England Level 5: Higher National Diploma (HND) RQF Level 5 or Higher National Certificate (HNC Level 5) or Scottish Higher National Diploma (HND) - SCQF Level 8 - entry point will be year three of the six year course, so there will be four years of study remaining. Please note that applicants are required to achieve all Merits in the Final year of the HND/HNC. If you don't have all Merits in the Final year or have studied a different but closely related subject, we'll consider your application and if we cannot give you Advanced Entry we may be able to credit you with certain modules. In your application form, please list all the HNC, HND and Foundation Degree units that you have or are taking.
