Course summary

The MA in Public History and Heritage is ideal if you are directly aiming for a career in that field. We offer a flexible programme designed to offer academic training and relevant employability skills. You will have the chance to engage with external heritage organisations and gain practical, hands-on experience with staff projects in heritage and public history. Modules may include: Debates and Approaches in Heritage and Public History; Heritage Work Placement; Research Methodologies in Ancient History; Roman houses and households; Postgraduate Beginning Latin I & II; Understanding Ancient Egyptian Culture; Royal Space: The King and His Palace in the Ancient World; Reaching the Public: Museums and Object Handling; Discovering Old English; The Queer Middle Ages: Bodies, Textuality and Objects; Historical Methods and Approaches; New Departures in the Writing of History; The Forging of the Portuguese Overseas World, 1415-1808; Swansea and the Sea, 1791-1898; Wales since 1945; Communicating History; The Normans in Western Europe and the Mediterranean: Memory, identity and diaspora, c.900-1150; Directed Reading in History; Reading Medieval Manuscripts; Fascism and Culture; Gender and Humour in Medieval and Early Modern Europe.


Entry requirements

Our preferred offer is a 2:1 degree in History, Heritage Studies, Archaeology, Classics, Egyptology, Geography, Cultural Studies, Sociology or a 2:1 degree in other arts, humanities or social science subjects, or a science-based archaeology or conservation degree. We will also consider applications from candidates with significant professional or volunteering experience in the heritage/public history sector.
