The purpose of Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Healthcare Professions’ Support for England is to develop students as professional, as independent-thinking professionals who can meet the demands of employers and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and improve the career prospects of those who take them. The objectives of the Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Healthcare Professions’ Support for England are as follows: ●
- To equip students with the Healthcare Professional skills, knowledge and the understanding necessary to achieve high performance in the global health and social care environment.
- To provide education and training for a range of careers in healthcare, including: healthcare assistant practitioner roles in a range of settings, nursing assistant/auxiliary roles, care navigation, planning and assessment roles .
- To provide insight and understanding into the diversity of roles within the healthcare sector, recognising the importance of collaboration at all levels .
- To equip students with knowledge and understanding of culturally diverse organisations, cross-cultural issues, diversity and values.
- To provide opportunities for students to enter or progress in employment in healthcare, or progress to higher education qualifications such as a pre-registration degree in one of the allied health professions or nursing.
- To provide opportunities for students to develop the skills, techniques and personal attributes essential for successful working lives .
- To support students to understand the local, regional and global context of healthcare practice and aspire to progress their career in healthcare .
- To provide students with opportunities to address contemporary health and care issues facing the sector, and society at large, with particular emphasis on integrated and compassionate care, and person-centred and personal approaches to providing healthcare to individuals across their lifespan.

Assessment method
Using a variety of assessment methods such as presentations, voice recordings individual assignments, presentation packs and specific assessment that meets the learning outcomes. There will be an initial study skills module, to demonstrate fundamental academic writing. Harvard Referencing will be covered, structure of essay, tutorial on PowerPoint and short Study skill sessions embedded in each session over the initial six-week period. Study skills are to be reviewed intermittently throughout the year. students will have access to HN Global, with links available via Moodle. A range of assessment types will be used, to mitigate the potential use of AI. Formal guidelines defined by Pearson BTEC and the College for academic disciplinary outlined and agreed. All assignments submitted via Turnitin, with exception for Unit 2 (PLAD), which Students will upload and share to One Drive. Students are required to attach feedback and cover sheet declaring it to be their own work, for each summative assessment via Turnitin. All professional discussions are recorded and saved to One Drive. Where the summative assessment includes a supporting case study, this will be submitted, with a cover sheet, onto Turnitin to separate drop box.

For students who have recently been in education, the entry profile would be one of the following: • BTEC Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or related subject Grade MPP • GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. • Other relevant Level 3 qualification • Access to Higher Education Diploma from an approved further education institution • An international equivalent of the above • Adequate proficiency in English. • GCSE grades 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English For returning learners, each application will be reviewed on a one to one basis and include consideration of the following: • Significant work or life experience relevant to the course and equivalent to the qualifications listed above. • A good command of written English. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - The College welcomes applications from those with previous academic credit, provided applicants have fulfilled some of the assessment requirements by means other than attendance, and that they will be able, by completing the remaining requirements to fulfil the intended learning outcomes of the programme and attain the standards required for the award. This is subject to successful approval via the College’s Recognition of Prior Learning process prior to admission.

Additional fee information
A device to research and write assignments, such as a laptop. Student responsible for cost incurred for purchase. The college is able to support with day-to-day laptops, these should remain on premises at all times.
Further costs may include an enhanced DBS for placement. Currently the cost is £38 (GOV.UK, 2022). Students may wish to sign up to the government DBS Update Service, which currently costs £13 per year.
Students are encouraged to purchase books to support their learning from reputable recycled websites, these will be discussed at induction. The Learning Resource centre has a range of books that can be taken out on loan in addition to the tutor’s personal collection.
Stationary – Pens, Highlighters, Post-it Notes, Plastic Wallets and A4 Folder. Additionally, a USB Stick to save assignments as a back-up, for any technical difficulties encountered.
