Course summary

The Sensors Electronic Warfare PgCert has been designed for officers of the Armed Forces and for scientists and technical officers in government defence establishments and the defence industry. The programme covers a selection of Electronic Warfare (EW) topics relevant to military systems, covering the specification, analysis, development, procurement, and technical management of military radar, electro-optics and infrared sensor systems. The main focus of the programme being EW in relation to sensor systems, requires a good understanding of these systems before going on to consider how to defend them from electronic attack or intercept.

Modules

Compulsory modules: Electromagnetic propagation and devices; signal processing, statistics and analysis; radar principles; radar electronic warfare; electro-optics and infrared systems 1; electro-optics and infrared systems 2.

Assessment method

Lectures, laboratory demonstrations, tutorials and visits to outside organisations.


Entry requirements

A first or second class UK Honours degree (or equivalent) ideally in a related subject. Other recognised professional qualifications or several years relevant industrial experience may be accepted as equivalent; subject to approval by the Course Director.
