University of Westminster, London has opted into the TEF and received a Bronze award.
Based within our Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, our research programme in linguistics has a long-established tradition, both theoretical and pedagogical. More recently, the programme has built on its strengths in English language, particularly in the historical study of the language, and has been successful in obtaining several major grants to fund research projects in the area. We welcome applications to all areas of English language and in particular to the following specific research areas: Creole linguistic; linguistics; and phonetics.
Applicants should have a minimum classification of 2.1 in their first degree or equivalent and preferably a master's degree (or masters degree pending). Applicants whose first degree has not been studied in English should have IELTS score of 7.0 with not less than 6.5 in any of the individual components. Applicants need to submit a research proposal of 2,000–3,500 words. It should include a title of proposed research, identify discipline and formulate research questions clearly. It should also include proposed research methodology and plan of work and time schedule. References are normally required and if not provided with your application will be requested at a later date.
