Course summary
The course aims to develop the students interest in and knowledge and understanding of Christian theology. Through a variety of options, students are able to engage with biblical studies, ecclesiology, missiology and church history in some depth. Students acquire critical interpretive and theological tools that build on the BA (Hons) in theology programme. They learn to develop insights that speak to contemporary issues; the programme is designed to give applicants the opportunity to develop aspects of particular interest at a postgraduate level; it are of interest for people who wish to devote a year to more in-depth, focussed and critical study of theology, often as part of a programme of continuing professional development.
Modules
Modules may include: Further New Testament (NT) text study in context (Luke-acts); further Old Testament (OT) text study in context (genesis); further OT text study in context (Isaiah); issues in biblical theology; Christian doctrine in focus; sacramental theology and ministry; church history in focus; independent learning project (long); extended project in theology, ministry and mission; denominational ministry; 31 mission and apologetics in contemporary culture; further reflective practice in context (short); further reflective practice in context (long); corporate engagement with context B; Christian theology, ritual and pastoral care; the bible and Christian faith; advanced OT studies: psalms; advanced NT studies: Galatians and i Corinthians; NT texts in Greek; advanced study in Christian doctrine: Anabaptist missiology and ecclesiology; advanced study of a theological text: revelation; advanced topic in church history: revivals and revivalism; advanced topic in church history: Anabaptist origins and distinctives; advanced study of a Christian figure: Barth; themes in moral theology; advanced topic in Christian ethics: Anabaptist ethics and Heremeneutics; Christian faith and the environment; research and reflection: resources and methods; reflective practice: Christian worship; reflective practice: mission and evangelism.
Assessment method
The programme is assessed at levels 6 and 7 and you are required to take enough modules to add up to 120 credits.
Entry requirements
Either: First-class or upper-second degree in theology or a closely related discipline; Graduate Diploma in theology; a first-class or upper-second degree in a non-theological discipline plus a Certificate in Theology with an overall average of at least 60 per cent. International students need to have an IELTS (International English Language Test Score) of 7 and the English language test must have been taken within the last two years.
