Course summary

Learn how engineering, manufacture and management work together to find product solutions in industry. Explore the creation process from design to end product. Our course develops your understanding of the sciences and disciplines relating to manufacturing. You’ll study engineering, manufacturing and management to understand their role in production processes. We draw on our links with industry to build your knowledge of the integrated systems, processes and technologies used in advanced manufacturing. Learning about the latest engineering developments will inspire you to explore low-carbon and sustainable ways to produce high-quality products. You’ll have the opportunity to translate ideas into practice through project work. In your final year, you'll work on a semester-long, full-time individual project that encourages you to take imaginative approaches to solve complex engineering problems. You could explore new business or engineering technologies in areas such as aerospace, automotive, sports equipment, medical devices, or data management. We are invested in helping you get the most out of your learning experience. You’ll learn from academics with expertise in mechanical engineering and established links with industry. They have knowledge in design, manufacture, biomechanics, materials, automotive and aerospace. Their international collaborations and research activities feed into undergraduate teaching and contribute to your learning experience.

Qualification requirements

GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4 or C (or equivalent from English language category C) GCSE grades are an important part of selection for this course and we typically expect students to have a good number of GCSEs at grade 7-9 or A-A*. Your GCSE grades in Mathematics and Physics are particularly important and we typically expect grade 8-9 in at least one of these subjects. Your GCSE grades will be carefully considered as part of our contextual admissions process and depending on your circumstances, we may be able to consider you with GCSE grades of mostly 6 or B.
