Course summary

This course is aimed at people who work or who wish to work in the games industry. Units focus on the creative art and level design elements that are considered fundamental to games development. When undertaking practical assessments you are expected to perform to an industry standard and use your own initiative to research required topics. The programme is designed to prepare you for employment in the exciting world of games development and related industries such as visual effects. You will also undertake many industry related enrichment visits such as developer conferences to enhance your learning experience.

Modules

Specialist units will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding relevant to specific creative activities in games art application and in the creation of your own professional portfolio. They include: HNC (Year 1) - Individual Project (Pearson Set); Creative Media Industry; Professional Practice; Game Development Practises (Game Build 1); Games in Context (Game Theory); Game Design (Game Build 2); Concept Art Development; 3D Modelling for Games (Asset Creation); and Field Trips and Networking Expo's. HND (Year 2) - Collaborative Project; Personal Professional Development; Advanced Game Development; Mobile Game Development; Advanced 3D Modelling; Environment and Level Design; and Advanced Rendering & Visualisation. You will produce a professional portfolio showcasing high quality game ready assets, commercial ready game environments, content for VR all using the latest Autodesk, Algorithmic, Adobe software in conjunction with the Unity and UE4 game engines and more. There is also the opportunity for suitable students to undertake work experience with local games companies.

Assessment method

A range of assessment methods are used including assignments, presentations to industry professionals, course work and live briefs.

Successful completion of a HNC in a related subject plus GCSEs at Grade 4/c or above in maths and English Language.

International applicants

Qualification requirements

Please note that in addition applicants are required to have GCSE grade 4/C or above in maths and English Language. Functional Skills Level 2 are also considered. UAL Level 3 qualification are also considered for this course. Mature students can apply with no formal qualifications but with a minimum of three years relevant experience.
