Do you dream of being the coach behind a great athlete, inspiring children through sport and physical activity, or supporting athletes’ development? Our course is focused on preparing you for these careers, and many more. Together, we’ll explore sport development, physiology, and the psychology of sport coaching. You’ll learn how to work confidently on your own, or as part of a team. As a student in Cambridge you can use specialist labs accredited by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), gain safeguarding and coaching qualifications, and get first-hand experience working with schools and sports clubs. Our flexible modules allow you to explore different aspects of sport and fitness, from strength and conditioning to nutrition. Through lectures and practical sessions, you’ll explore how the body performs, and responds to, physical activity. You’ll look at data collection and interpretation; and we’ll focus on the role of the coach in talent identification and development. There are plenty of opportunities to get hands-on experience, delivering real-life sessions and finding your ‘style’ as a coach. As a graduate, you can consider teaching roles in schools and colleges, coaching at community or performance level, and performance (notation) analysis for sport teams or athletes. There is the opportunity to move towards the area of sport development where there are a number of themes to focus on, such as mental health, physical activity, and minority groups. By studying with us, you can also shape your learning experiences by taking opportunities in the wider health, fitness and leisure industry. We welcome talented athletes and offer financial support through our Sport Scholarship.
