Primary instrument/specialism
- Dance
This programme is designed to help you develop secure classical and contemporary dance technique, and prepare you for the profession as a confident, versatile and technically strong dancer. You will graduate with the skills required by professional companies, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with other artists, choreographers and audiences. BA Modern Ballet is delivered in partnership with Scottish Ballet and provides numerous opportunities, allowing you to gain invaluable insight into professional life. You will work regularly with Scottish Ballet staff, dancers and internationally acclaimed teachers and choreographers, including Artistic Director/CEO Christopher Hampson. All graduate year students will work with Scottish Ballet throughout the ‘Wee ballet’ project and additionally, some students will have the opportunity to perform in the mainstage company tours. All third-year students attend a weekly Company Class at Scottish Ballet. We are the only European conservatoire to offer all of the performance art specialisms and we encourage you to work collaboratively to expand your artistic horizons. You might find yourself performing to camera for film students, choreographing a piece with our composers, or on stage at one of Scotland’s major theatres. You will take part in performances within a variety of environments and contexts, further enhancing the breadth of vocational education and your employability. All applicants, regardless of how you are auditioning, need to create an Acceptd account and upload photographs prior to your audition. Details of how to complete this can be found under the selection process heading of the "How to Apply" section on our webpage: https://www.rcs.ac.uk/courses/ba-modern-ballet/ Important Audition Information There are two stages to audition: the preliminary round auditions will take place in Glasgow, London or Online - you can choose where you would like to attend. There will also be a preliminary round in Japan, but these will take place before the international application deadline. If you would like to audition in Japan, please contact the RCS directly. Curriculum Review We are currently in the review cycle for our DDPF undergraduate programmes starting in 2024, these courses are currently designated 'subject to revalidation'. This is standard practice during curriculum review periods. The outcome of this processes, may mean there are some changes to how your programme is delivered.
During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:
Only one instrument is studied. It may be possible to study a further instrument formatively, but this will not contribute towards the qualification.
For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.
Please see our website for more information about this course.
