Course summary
Research students are welcomed into a cross-disciplinary, collaborative academic community where they are encouraged to conduct research with the support of a dedicated supervisory team. Students will join a dynamic postgraduate community with access to structured training, research forums and networks. Training will develop the research skills that will benefit their study and future career. Students will be encouraged to present findings at conferences and symposia and some students have the opportunity to undertake undergraduate teaching with the School, following appropriate training. Applications are encouraged from students who wish to conduct research into any of our specialist areas of expertise, including EU law, international law, commercial law, dispute settlement and civil justice procedures, human rights and humanitarian law, environmental law and criminal justice.
Modules
Areas of research include: civil liberties; European social law and policy; international economic law; dispute settlement; environmental law; animal welfare law. Work is also being conducted in comparative law and the pedagogy of legal teaching.
Assessment method
Students are required to demonstrate adequate and appropriate progress on an annual basis. Final assessment is by viva voce examination of a research thesis.
Entry requirements
First or upper second class honours degree or a Master’s degree with a significant law element. Direct entry onto the PhD may be available with an appropriate Master’s degree or MPhil. Please note, applicants may be asked to attend an interview.

All UK or EU students who already hold a University of Lincoln undergraduate degree or higher qualification will receive a 30% reduction in tuition fees when they enrol on a University of Lincoln Postgraduate research programme.
