Course summary

Our Management Psychology MSc provides you with a strong understanding of how to use psychology in the workplace and the tools needed to effectively manage people. It's ideal for those who have not studied psychology before and does not presume any prior knowledge of research methods. You'll analyse the main areas of management psychology: learning, training and development; leadership engagement and motivation; organisational development and change; psychological assessment at work; work design and wellbeing at work; strategic human resource management and managing diversity. The course also has a strong practical focus and it aims to improve your skills as a practitioner. That's why you'll also learn about consultancy as part of your studies. You'll also get a good grasp on research methods applicable to the workplace, something that is particularly valuable to future employers. An advanced degree from Nottingham will see you graduate with the knowledge you need to take the next step in your career.

Modules

You'll study across a number of compulsory modules designed to provide you with a sound knowledge and understanding of core areas of management psychology along with the skills to apply that knowledge in a practical setting. Study takes place over three semesters, autumn, spring, and summer. Typically taught modules are delivered in the autumn and spring semesters with the summer used for the research project, though this is dependent on your mode of study. Assessment method

Assessment is undertaken by a variety of means, including examinations, essays, dissertations and field-based project work.


Entry requirements

2:1 (or international equivalent); you need to have a good first degree but the specific discipline is less important. The main requirement is to demonstrate an interest in improving individual, team and organisational effectiveness, whether as a manager, HR specialist or consultant. Previous successful students have had degrees in Psychology, Business Studies, Law, English etc. You will, however, need to value an evidence-based approach and be reasonably adept or willing to learn about research methods, including some statistics; IELTS: 6.5 (no less than 6.0 in any element)
