Course summary
The BTEC Higher National qualifications in Building Services Engineering –Mechanical pathway is aimed at students who are looking to develop their career as a Building Services Engineer. Candidates are generally already working in technician roles “on the tools" and this programme supports student’s development towards design, installation and management roles within the sector. Optional units are offered to support both electrical and mechanical Building services engineers. Mechanical includes Heating, Ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning and plumbing while Electrical covers services for domestic, commercial and industrial building.
Modules
Students will complete the following units on this programme: Construction Technology, Science & Materials, Mathematics for Construction, Principles of Heating Services Design & Installation, Individual Project, Construction Practice & Management, Principles of Electrical Design & Installation and Group/individual tutorial.
Assessment method
Continuous assessment through written assignments, presentations and laboratory work.

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

Qualification requirements
All applications will be considered individually however offers will usually be based on: 64 UCAS points at A Level in relevant subject(s) BTEC Level 3 qualification (2 years) in Construction and the Built Environment 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (or numeric score of 4/5 under newly reformed GCSE grading) which must include Maths and English. An Access to Higher Education Diploma in relevant area Other related Level 3 qualifications Related work experience will be considered in place of formal qualifications Successful applicants who do not have GCSES in Maths and /or English at Grade C (Or equivalent) will be offered the opportunity to undertake that qualification whilst on their Higher Education course. Applicants should be aware that progression on to Level 6 top up programmes may not be possible without the GCSE Passes.
