BTEC Higher Nationals are designed to provide an engaging specialist vocational programme with a strong work-related emphasis, linked to the requirements of the professional bodies and National Occupational standards. The HNC comprises eight units and the HND sixteen units. You may study on a full or part-time basis. We also offer a top up from HNC to HND. Upon successful completion of the course you will be in a position to progress towards an undergraduate degree or further professional qualification in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or a related area. You will have developed a range of professional and work-related attributes, enabling you progress to employment.

Modules

In November 2016, Pearson, the awarding body for the College’s BTEC HNC/Ds, circulated detailed specifications for updated qualifications that will be part of the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and will provide essential subject knowledge that students need to progress successfully into further study or the world of work. The BTEC Higher Nationals in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) on the RQF provide an engaging specialist vocational programme with a strong work-related emphasis, linked to the requirements of the professional bodies and National Occupational standards. Stage One units: Engineering Design; Engineering Mathematics; Engineering Science; Managing a Professional Engineering Project; Electrical and Electronic Principles; Digital Principles; Electronic Circuits and Devices; Electrical Systems and Fault Finding. Stage Two units: Research Project; Professional Engineering Management; Further Mathematics; Further Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs); Industrial Power, Electronics and Storage; Industrial Systems; Further Electrical, Electronic and Digital Principles.

Assessment method

Learning methods include: lectures; group discussions; practical sessions; one-to-one tutor-student reviews. Through lectures, you will be encouraged to develop skills in listening and selective note taking, and to appreciate how information is structured and presented. The traditional form of delivery is enhanced through the use of computer-based or other audio visual aids and supported by VLE-based provision of lecture notes and discussion groups. Assessments may include elements of: practical assessments; portfolios of evidence; data analysis; case studies; oral and written reports; presentations; assignments.

A level EE - C To include an Engineering-related subject such as Mathematics, Physics, Design Technology.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016) PPP Engineering required.
Access to HE Diploma Overall pass to include 45 credits at Level 3. Subject required: Engineering or Science.
Scottish Higher D Engineering-related subject such as Mathematics, Physics, Design Technology.
GCSE/National 4/National 5 Minimum of three GCSE subjects at grade C/4 or above.

Mature students may present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid) and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector. Mature/non-standard applicants or those completing an HNC at another institution may discuss a slightly differentiated programme of study with the team which acknowledges their experience and meets their specific needs. If appropriate, the programme will be agreed prior to enrolment and will comprise a combination of Units from the team’s available portfolio. In these instances, you will infill with other groups studying the same Unit(s). Non-standard applicants will be required to produce evidence of their ability to study at the Higher Education level. Short-course and relevant work experience may be taken into account. Non-standard applicants may be interviewed and may be required to complete a piece of written work as part of their application. Claims for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) are welcomed by the Programme team.

Bradford College is committed to delivering quality, affordable degrees. We work hard to cut the cost and not the corners on our undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses. The tuition fee rate per year is fixed for the duration of the course providing there is no break in study. You will not be asked to pay these fees up front, as you should be eligible for loans to cover the tuition fees and assist with living expenses from Student Finance England. However, please ensure that you have made your application and secured funding for your course prior to registration.
