Course summary

Become a Nurse, or expand your practice, and change patients' lives in a global top 100* university. This graduate-entry accelerated course provides you with the skills and expertise to work in the care of people across the spectrum of society as a Mental Health Nurse. This course also enables applicants who are already graduate nurses to gain registration in a second field of practice in around 20 months through recognition of prior learning. You'll study a course accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), with whom you will be eligible to register after successful completion, in a department ranked 6th in the world for Nursing.** This course has two routes: the MSc and the PG Diploma. After you've successfully completed the PG Diploma you can also ‘top up’ to a full MSc by completing a dissertation module. Assessment method

At Southampton, assessments are designed to equip you with the skills you need for success in your career. On this course, your theoretical skills will be assessed through essays, examinations, projects, professional conversations, and a dissertation. Practical skills will be assessed whilst you are on placement and recorded by your practice mentor.

Entry requirements

UK 2.2 Hons degree or above or an equivalent standard in other qualifications approved by the University as well as GCSE English language, science and maths 4-9 or A*-C. You will be required to successfully complete a Recognition of Prior Learning as a condition of entry to the programme. Submit: 325 hours of relevant theoretical learning from your first degree or employment and 675 hours of practice worked in a healthcare environment under the supervision of a registered healthcare professional Subject to satisfactory health and DBS checks

Additionally, to support living costs, eligible (UK) students may be eligible for a Student Finance maintenance loan; also a £5,000 NHS Training Grant of £5,000 per academic year.
