Course summary

Do you hold a degree in maths or a related area? Are you looking to begin a career in teaching with a maths or numeracy specialism? If so, this PGCE Mathematics and Numeracy will get you to where you want to to be. The course has a real practical focus and you will undertake a placement where you will teach maths at two different levels to develop your teaching practice. You will be a problem solver, a logical thinker, patient and want to work with those who find maths challenging. This course is aimed at those who wish to study on a full-time basis. Once you complete this course you will be eligible to apply for QTLS, which is as highly regarded as QTS by employers.

Modules

Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Education and Training; Theories, Principles and Models in Education and Training; Developing Teaching, Learning and Assessment in Education and Training; Wide Professional Practice and Development in Education and Training. Specialist modules: Maths, numeracy and the learners; Maths, improving mathematical knowledge, understanding and practice.

Assessment method

Observations of teaching practice, Teaching Portfolios, Written assignments, Presentations.


Entry requirements

Minimum 2:2 in the relevant Level 6 qualification.
