Course summary

Make significant contributions to the lives of children with a degree that can lead to a range of professional career roles. Offering pathways in Early Childhood Studies and Primary Education Studies, this course equips you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to be an effective practitioner in several possible careers working with children and their families. Our collaborative partnerships with key employers, who support our students’ learning throughout the course, provide real opportunities for comprehensive collaboration and partnership. Our students have several additional opportunities, such as achieving a Level 3 qualification in Paediatric First Aid, a requirement for staff in all Early Years settings, and the Graduate Practitioner Competencies, which will give your CV an edge, whatever career path you choose. The Early and Middle Childhood degree will build on current practice and research within the sector catering for the 0-11 age range, providing students with current in-depth knowledge and understanding. Embedded at the heart of the course is the emphasis on employability skills, ensuring students are equipped to enter a diverse range of careers, both directly from the course as graduate professionals and with further study at postgraduate level. This highly practical course has placement opportunities in each year of study, giving you a range of hands-on experience. Foundation Year courses have been designed for students who do not have the necessary academic qualifications needed to enter directly into the first year of a degree but who have the ability and commitment to do so. Once the Foundation Year has been completed successfully, you can then go on to complete your degree.
