Modules

In year one you are introduced to the fundamentals of energy management including modules on the oil and gas industry, petroleum geoscience, the economic environment of business, and sustainability and the energy industry. Students who choose to exit the course after completing the first year will be eligible to receive a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Energy Management. Emphasis in the second year shifts to the examination of conceptual themes and approaches present in energy systems management. You can expect to adopt a more systematic, critical and individualised approach when considering competing explanations of change in the principle areas of the subject. Modules cover topics such as climate change, energy project research planning, project management, and health and safety. Students who choose to exit the course after completing the second year will be eligible to receive a Higher National Certificate (HND) in Energy Management. An optional placement or sandwich year gives you the chance to gain further insight into the industry before starting your final year. In the final year you will produce a plan for an individual research project which you will then implement by yourself. This activity seeks to develop vital transferable skills beyond the academic discipline such as personal organisation, sustained motivation and critical thinking.
