Establish yourself as an interactive audio specialist in this multidisciplinary, professionally-targeted, postgraduate course. This highly-specialised course focuses on the intricate and multifaceted field of audio production, design and implementation for video games. Through the exploration of established and emerging approaches and technologies, you will develop a deep understanding of production techniques, technical skills and creative concepts necessary to excel in the specialised field of game sound. You will produce a diverse portfolio that showcases the breadth of your skills and understanding of game audio production, sound design, interactive audio implementation, and become an experienced operator of key industry-relevant tools, thus demonstrating your ability to craft engaging work for a range of audiences and experiences. Modules

You will study a total of 5 modules, including a final major project. Throughout the year, you will refine your skills as a creator of high-quality, original audio content for interactive experiences; develop your expertise in middleware and game engines; become adept in the recording and mixing of spatial and 3D sound; deepen your understanding of the game industry landscape and produce a final major project. Modules: Sound Design for Games Create and manipulate sound effects, ambient sounds and interactive audio elements that enhance the gameplay experience through the study and application of advanced processes and techniques related to Foley art, synthesis, recording methodologies and audio manipulation & processing to generate a diverse range of in-game sounds. Interactive Audio Systems Delve into the technical aspects of game sound implementation, using middleware and audio engines to integrate your sound effects and/or music into the game engine. You will learn about scripting languages, audio middleware tools (such as Wwise or FMOD), and game engines (such as Unity and Unreal Engine) to create interactive and dynamic audio experiences. Spatial Audio and 3D Sound Discover what it means to create truly ‘immersive sound’ in this exploration of spatial audio within games through the utilisation of binaural audio, surround sound, and object-based audio techniques. You will learn how to record, mix and implement spatial audio to enhance gameplay immersion and provide players with a realistic and captivating soundscape; taking full advantage of our Dolby Atmos mixing suites. Industry and Collaboration Enhance your employability through an examination of the complex and interconnected world of game audio production. This module emphasises the practical skills, industry insights, and collaborative techniques required to excel as a professional game audio specialist. Through an advanced understanding of the industry landscape and development of your collaborative abilities, you will identify and hone the relevant skills and attributes needed for a successful career in game sound. Major Game Sound Project Your final module is a major research project, where you will develop a comprehensive and in-depth exploration of a specific topic or problem within the field of game sound. This project is a culmination of your academic and practical work, one that will require you to showcase your ability to conduct original research, apply advanced audio techniques, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in game audio design and technology.
