Course summary

The MA in Business Management provides an exciting opportunity to enhance your knowledge and understanding in the field of business management. The overall aim of the MA in Business Management is to promote opportunities to develop understanding of management of people and organisations. The programme adds value by allowing you to acquire an integrated and strategic view of management within organisations in a rapidly changing world of business. It explores various aspects of business including the factors that drive firms to develop and grow, the tools they use to market their products and services, the challenges of managing people, successfully leading organisations and the promotion of the organisation’s ethical standards and social responsibility. The MA aims to develop transferrable skills which can open up a wide range of career opportunities in business, administration and management careers, both in the public and private sectors. You may also choose to progress academically through either a PhD or Doctorate within a business discipline.

Modules

The MA in Business Management has two parts which span across three semesters: Part I: Six taught modules (120 credits) Part II: Dissertation or Work Related Project (60 credits) Total Award Credits: 180. Within Part I, all the modules are core and are compulsory for all the students studying for the Award: Finance and Accounting for Decision Makers (20 credits) Marketing - Strategy and Planning (20 credits) Management of HR (20 credits) Corporate Social Responsibility and Business Ethics (20 credits) Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship (20 credits), Research Methods (20 credits). Part II of the programme: The Dissertation (60 credits) or The Work Related Project (WRP) (60 credits)

Assessment method

Learning and teaching methods include lectures, group based activities including tutorials, collaborative student led seminars and presentations, workshops, enquiry based approaches, such as case study scenario/critical incident analysis and simulated experience such as workshops and discussions. A variety of assessment methods include coursework, essays, assignments, reports, presentations, case study presentations and reflective journals.

Minimum 2:2 in the relevant Honours Degree.
