Course summary

Our MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology is designed and delivered to prepare you for career pathways in sport and exercise psychology. The programme moves beyond the fundamentals of psychological science by focusing on significant areas in the applied contexts of sport and exercise while providing a critical understanding of sport and exercise psychology. Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) through Accreditation Through Partnership, the programme is designed and delivered with a view to preparing students for practitioner career pathways or doctoral research and academic roles in sport and exercise psychology and sport and exercise science, with a focus on psychology. Our staff also work as practitioners with national governing sport bodies, individual athletes and professional teams. The programme targets significant areas of sport and exercise psychology packaged in the following modules: Introductory Qualitative and Quantitative Research; Motivation and Individual Differences in Sport and Exercise; Performance Psychology and Management; Psychology of Exercise for Clinical Populations; Mental Health in Sport and Exercise; Professional Practice in Sport Psychology; The Psychology of the Coach-Athlete Relationship; as well as a research project.

An honours degree (good 2:1 of 65% or above, or equivalent international qualification) in sport and exercise science, psychology or a related discipline.

Additional fee information

The tuition fees shown are for new students commencing the first year of study in the specified year only. The fee stated is for a full-time student undertaking a master’s programme of 180 credits. Part-time students, or those taking a postgraduate certificate or a postgraduate diploma, should divide the published fee by 180 credits and then multiply by the number of credits they are taking to calculate their tuition fees. Fees are reviewed annually and are likely to increase to take into account inflationary pressures.
