If you’re passionate about sport and think you’ve got what it takes for a future in the industry, this Sports Journalism degree can help you achieve your goals. You will gain live reporting experience at the highest level, including the chance to meet and interview top athletes and professional sportsmen and women. You’ll learn highly transferable media communication skills as well building an industry-relevant portfolio which will showcase your capabilities to future employers. USW Cardiff is at the centre of Wales’s sporting community, just half a mile from the Principality Stadium in a city previously voted the European Capital of Sport. We have excellent contacts with sports companies locally and nationally, allowing students a range of experiences, from guest lectures to work experience, equipping you with the skills and knowledge to enter the world of sports journalism.

Qualification requirements
GCSEs: The University normally requires a minimum 5 GCSEs including Mathematics/Numeracy and English at Grade C or Grade 4 or above, or their equivalent, but consideration is given to individual circumstances

Interview
Selection for this course is based on a suitable application and attendance at an interview with successful outcome. During your interview, we would like to discuss your knowledge of sporting journalism, so in preparation we would suggest watching, listening to and reading the latest sports news. We also like to find out more about your interests, including any other sports related journalism you consume such as magazines, digital media etc. Whilst there is no need to provide a portfolio, you are more than welcome to show and discuss examples of your work and talk about related experiences.

IELTS 7.5 overall with no lower than 7.5 in any one component.
