Course summary

Take your first steps to a career in PE teaching through a theoretical and practical approach to planning and delivering lessons to a range of different groups. This course is aimed at students who are considering a future career in teaching PE (Physical Education). The course covers the relevant theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as providing you with the opportunity to gain experience of planning and delivering lessons. All three levels of study on this course involve teaching experience across a range of age ranges and in a variety of activities. This course has been designed by former PE teachers to reflect the knowledge and experience required by students who are aiming to move into the profession. All modules are delivered by experienced PE staff with strong academic profiles, who are aware of the knowledge and skills required to be a successful PE teacher.

Qualification requirements

Please note that the Welsh Baccalaureate and A Level General Studies will be recognised in our offer. We will also consider a combination of A Levels and BTECs/OCRs. GCSE English Language and Maths at grade C/4 or above are also required. Applications from applicants with a HND are welcome and will be considered for Level 5 or Year 2 entry. Furthermore, students will be expected to have worked with young people in some capacity in a PE/sports coaching environment. Leadership and/or coaching qualifications, as well as examples of actual coaching and leadership experience would also be desirable. Successful applicants will also be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and a Declaration of Health form. Prior to admission to this course, you will be required to obtain a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check through the University, for which there will be charge. The cost of the disclosure is currently £55:00. Applicants are strongly advised to subscribe to the Disclosure Update Service, payable directly to the DBS and currently costing £13:00.
