Course summary
The MLitt in Comparative Literature explores the transnational understanding of literature and culture, providing students with a critical evaluation of classical and contemporary theoretical approaches combined with the intensive study of a broad range of texts across national, cultural and linguistic borders, and the relations between them.
Modules
Core modules: Apples and oranges (issues in comparative literature); theory and practice of literary research; the contemporary canon; designing a research project. Optional modules: Different language areas offered in the School (Arabic, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish) or modules from other disciplines in the Faculty of Arts.
Assessment method
MLitt: 9 months of continuous assessment and a 15,000-word dissertation. MPhil: 9 months of continuous assessment followed by 15 months of research and production of a 40,000-word thesis.
Entry requirements
A good degree, minimum 2.1 Honours, from a UK university or equivalent.
