If you’re interested in exploring society, personal identity, and what makes people commit crimes, this course is for you. Combining sociology and criminology, our joint honours degree applies equal weight to both disciplines. Designed to help you prepare for a future career, in sectors such as the civil service, public services (like the police or probation service) and charities which support some of the most vulnerable members in society, our Sociology and Criminology BSc(Hons) could help you step with confidence into a real-world role. You’ll be taught by experts from both sociology and criminology, gaining insight into social inequalities, criminal justice, diversity, and criminality, which will enhance your employability opportunities. You can gain real-world experience via a work placement in year two, putting the sociological skills and knowledge gained on the course to the test. Previous students have secured placements in community organisations, the voluntary sector, youth offending teams with the police, and within national and local government. You may also have the opportunity to study abroad too. You’ll select topics and develop your understanding in areas that interest you, as well, on both sides of the course. Assessment method
You'll be taught through seminars, group work, practical experience, lectures, workshops, Brightspace (an online learning platform) and work placement. Assessment will include coursework, practice/competency-based learning, and examination. Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.
