Course summary
Nurture your sense of creative spirit, grow your skills and discover your true passion for ceramics, printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture and textiles. Specialist workshops allow you to develop an understanding of the underlying concepts and principles of traditional fine art and crafts processes. Our programme will introduce you to a vibrant arts community through live briefs and provide opportunities to collaborate with local artist groups and help you realise your artistic ambitions. This course is particularly relevant to people looking to develop themselves as professional artists and makers within independent or group studios, continuing to exhibit, engage with community art groups and projects, and promote and sell their own work. This course provides a range of creative skills relevant across a variety of different professions. People who have completed this course have gone on to work in areas including Art and Design teacher, Teaching Assistant, Art Technician, Gallery Manager, Community Arts Worker. If you wish to continue studying beyond this course, it will provide you with a strong academic basis to do so. Course progression routes could include Initial Teacher Training programmes to qualify as Secondary School teachers in Art and Design, Masters in the Fine Art and Crafts disciplines or Art Therapy.
Modules
This course includes the following core modules that all students complete: Year 1: Level 4 Historical and Contextual Studies 1 Drawing and Visualisation Fine Art Processes: Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture Craft Processes: Ceramics and Textiles Fine Art Practice 1 Crafts Practice 1 Year 2: Level 5 Professional Practice Historical and Contextual Studies 2 Fine Art and Crafts Practice 2: Project Development Fine Art and Crafts Practice 2: Realisation Year 3: Level 6 Professional Practice: Live Brief Dissertation Final Major Project Development Final Major Practice and Exhibition Occasional changes to modules and course content may take place. Students will be notified when applicable.
Assessment method
As a studio-based learning programme, assessment is by course work, including practical portfolios of artworks with sketchbooks and logbooks showing the development of ideas. Other assessment methods include written and verbal presentations.
