Course summary

Our three-year Physics with Astrophysics degree provides a strong understanding of the fundamental pillars of physics and a thorough grounding in advanced mathematics. You'll apply physics, mathematics and computation to understand the origin and evolution of the universe. Hands-on experience in our high-spec facilities is embedded throughout the degree and will develop your practical skills for a wide range of physical science careers. Guided by our world-leading academics, you'll study a broad range of cutting edge physics modules. In your final year, you'll specialise in astrophysics with modules such as relativity and cosmology, stellar structure and evolution and interstellar medium. BSc or MPhys? Physics with Astrophysics is offered at two levels: Bachelor of Science (BSc) Master of Physics (MPhys) Our MPhys degree includes an additional year of advanced study at master’s level, where you will gain a deeper understanding of the subject to prepare you for a career in this challenging field.

•If you already have, or are taking, the A level (or equivalent) Maths and Science qualifications specified in our entry requirements, you should apply for stage 1 (First Year) entry of the Physics or engineering degree course in which you are interested •If you have a Maths qualification but will not have it at A level (or equivalent) when you start your degree, you should apply for the relevant degree with Foundation Year. We may give you the opportunity to take the Newcastle University Pre-Entry Maths Course* and the option to start in First Year if we think that this will be the best route for you
